ROOM 8 NEWSLETTERS

Term 1, Week 3 2015

Kia ora koutou Parents and Caregivers of the Room 8 class community

The beginning of a new academic year! I am really looking forward to meeting you and your children. It will be great getting to know your children's personalities, interests, strengths and needs as we embark on the next steps in their learning.

I hope you had a fantastic time with your family over the summer holiday making the most of the glorious summer weather. I had a fabulous time with my family both here in Nelson and Auckland. Most of my time was spent in Auckland with our cute wee grandchildren, Alice and Fletcher. Air New Zealand is going to post another record profit this year I am sure -just with my flights alone!!! So worth it though.
Something tells me that you will have a somewhat quieter, more carefree day Tuesday than those of the holidays .once the children are out the door and off to school … just a guess.

This newsletter will help you get started with a few of the Room 8 routines and give you a heads up to upcoming events.

ROOM 8 COMMUNICATION LINES...
*  I operate an open door policy and am happy to discuss your child’s progress and needs so please feel free to come and talk to me about any issues or questions you have. If I have to attend a meeting or have another appointment and am unavailable, we can organise another time to suit.

*  Each week news, events and home learning tasks will be emailled to you. Students will bring home a hard copy for parents without an email address.   The info will also be posted on our class blog site for you to access in case you can’t find the email amongst all the others.

*  The students will be in charge of recording information, photos and  reflections on the class blog at http://room8mapuaschool.blogspot.co.nz/
Remember that the blog is for two way communication.  Please make leaving a comment one of this year’s goals as we love it when you leave comments about what we are learning or have done.  I would also like to encourage you to subscribe to the class blogs so that you get notification in your email Inbox when the students or I have made a new post - Look for the "Follow us by email" section on the right hand side of the page.

*  My email address is thosie@mapua.school.nz

OTHER MATTERS

*  It would be great if all children could have their books here on Tuesday - preferably covered to extend their life!

*  Our camp will be Tuesday 3rd - Friday 6th March. A camp newsletter is due out today (or tomorrow at the latest)

* Welcome interviews - Week 3, Tuesday and Wednesday. You will be able to book via School Interview website. The goal is to strengthen relationships, gather information about students, and listen to your hopes for your children.  More details coming in Week 2.

So much to tell you but maybe rather than bombard you with info at this early stage, I will leave it until another time.  Until then ...
